Abstract

Identity and craziness are subjective formations aligned with social relations and
their cultural developments. In this way, the production of social coercion based on social
representations and its power character delimit the symbolic view of craziness arising
from the 20th century asylum institutions analyzed in this work. The role of this present
work is to carry out a literary analysis based on its production context and the constructs
of identity and craziness. The plot of Maura Lopes Cançado's (2016) work, Hospício é
Deus, narrates the author's daily life and her condition as an internal asylum, also carrying
this plot, the author's path to her institutionalization. The purposes of this work, based on
literary analysis and comparison with other works that promote the theme, are to discuss
the concepts of identity and craziness present in the work and thus make research notes.
